It is important for children to get exercise during the day. Even as homeschoolers, we try to carve out daily time for physical education. One of our favorite things to do together is yoga. Yoga is a versatile activity that can be done indoors or outdoors. It’s the perfect physical activity for a rainy day!
Did you know that there are DVDs featuring yoga for kids? We having been trying several different ones. The latest one we have tried is Storyland Yoga which is an award-winning yoga DVD for children ages 3-8.
Storyland Yoga is presented in the format of two stories: “Condor Trek” and “Save the Whale.” Children pretend to paddle kayaks, ride bikes, and climb rocks to rescue the animals–using yoga poses to do so. Throughout the narration, they are also taught about conservation. For information about the company that created Storyland Yoga, please visit Playful Planet.
I think that the stories are a very cute way to introduce yoga. Our favorite story was “Condor Trek.”My kids loved pretending to pick up eggs and flap their wings. They even convinced me to get in on the action! The yoga instructor seemed to have a great rapport with the children in his group. Although I watched it with only two children, I think this video would be great to show to a group of children in an outdoor setting. Imagine the possibilities!
You can purchase Storyland Yoga from Amazon.com or enter to win it on this blog. To enter, follow the directions on the Rafflecopter form below. If there is a problem with the form, please let me know.

Life is a picnic. You just never know when there will be ants.

My little one is still pretty small – 8.5 months – so our exercise is that she gets to ride in the mei tai carrier while we take nice long walks through the neighborhood and forest.
we try to take daily walks
We go out and play games, go to the park, or just chase each other around the house, screeching and laughing
Thanks for the giveaway; I’ve been eyeing this DVD to do with my 4 year old!
