Wonderland Creek by Lynn Austin

When I was growing up, I pretty much lived at the library. Books were my best friends. I had a summer job shelving books at a local library one year, in exchange for service hours. After high school, my first paying job was at my university library. So naturally, I was excited the find out that the heroine of Wonderland Creek by Lynn Austin is a librarian.

After losing her beloved library job, Alice Ripley decides to visit the mining town of Acorn, Kentucky where she plans to donate books to the local library. Nothing is as she expects and she must learn to adjust to a different way of life. With the help of librarian, Leslie “Mack” McDougal, and the feisty Lillie, she helps restore the library and the whole town.

I loved the character of Alice–she is so much like me! She becomes immersed in the story when she reads; I can definitely identify with that. But she is in the need of a wake-up call; Acorn is the perfect place to give her that. The way that Lynn handles her transformation is flawless. I really saw her character develop throughout the book. It was also enjoyable getting to know the other characters; the different residents of the town were very interesting!

Wonderland Creek is a great book full of heart and intrigue. If you have ever dreamed of becoming a librarian, you should read it. You can find it on Amazon.com

Disclosure: I was provided with a copy of the book gratis for review purposes by Bethany House. All opinions are my own.
