I have a great admiration for the Amish community and the simplicity of their lifestyle. I have often wondered what life would be like without electricity or technology. The characters in Beverly Lewis’s book, The Fiddler, wonder similar things about the Amish lifestyle.

Unlike his Amish family, Michael Hostetler has had a taste of the outside world–and he longs to return to it. A chance meeting with musician Amelia Devries inspires him to think about where his loyalties lie. Both Amelia and Michael help each other make some hard decisions.

I always enjoy reading Beverly’s books. This book seems to differ from from her other novels though; it does not focus so much on the community but more on the characters of Amelia and Michael.However, I like that because it gives an intimate look into their minds and emotional states. The conclusion of the story is not easily gained; I enjoy novels that do not wrap up a story in a neat little bow. I thought that it was a perfect ending for the way the plot progressed.

The Fiddler is a refreshing change of pace among today’s novels. If you are looking for a book that you can curl up with and take your time reading, this may be the book for you!
