Ever since I was a small child, I have love creating things. Art has been a very big part of my life and I wanted to pass that love onto my children. Both of the kid, especially W, love drawing, painting and crafting the most wonderful items. I wish I could keep everything! It’s been hard to find good craft kits for them both; either they are dumbed down or they have intricate pieces that tiny fingers don’t work well with.
I’ve been admiring the company who makes Kelly Kits for quite a while now. Kelly Kits are craft kits that contain a variety of materials for your children to get creative with. There are a number of options to choose from:
- Monthly Subscription Every month, your children will get to work with either painting, sculpting, drawing, printmaking, or collage.
- Gift Packs These are filled with supplies in all five disciplines, enough for two children!
- Sensory Pack This gluten free pack has sensory stimulating supplies that have both textural and olfactory appeal
- Birthday Party Pack Have a craft party with enough supplies for eight children!
This month’s Kelly Kit was the collage pack, which is great because my kids have never done collage before. Here is what a Kelly Kit looks like when you receive it:
The collage package was filled with all the supplies needed to make a fun project: feathers, pipe cleaners, tissue paper, yarn, and sticky cardboard. There were even a pair of scissors to cut the various supplies.
The kids were a little confused since they had never done a collage before. I thought they might like tearing the paper to stick on, but they both went straight to the scissors and cut bits of paper and yarn. They stuck them on the cardboard here and there, occasionally throwing in a feather. Here is one of the collages they did: Then the scissors prompted a whole new project outside of the Kelly Kit supplies: cutting up notebook paper and taping it together to make boats and people. The Kelly Kit started a new way of doing things! I really liked how it opened up their creatives sides and allowed them explore new skills.
