Introduction to the Trivium

This year, we are starting a totally new curriculum for both children. We have been interested in a classical education for awhile and have decided to teach the children following guidelines found in The Well-Trained Mind by Jessie Wise and Susan Wise Bauer.

The classical trivium is divided into three parts: grammar, logic, and rhetoric. Since C is in the first grade range, he will be starting the grammar stage and learning how to use language. Students don’t begin the trivium until first grade, but we will be using some suggestions The Well Trained Mind has for kindergarten for W.
